Join the Playgroup WA Board (Voluntary Board Members)

We are inviting applications to become a Playgroup WA Board Member and contribute to the governance and future direction of our organisation. At this time, we are seeking a Treasurer, as well as general Board Members.

About the Role

The Board’s role is to

  • set long-term goals and objectives for Playgroup WA to ensure it continues to be relevant and supportive to our thousands of member families,
  • provide support and direction to the CEO on the implementation of strategies to achieve these goals,
  • monitor compliance with policies, financial and legal requirements, and
  • maintain effective communications with members.

Board meetings are held monthly (in-person and/or online) between school and business hours. Childcare is provided when attending in-person. Board members also participate in one of the Board’s subcommittees.

Skills and Experience

Current board membership is diverse, with a range of experience and skills to ensure good governance and strategic direction. We have several vacancies for engaged board members with a keen interest in the early childhood development and who have a connection, understanding and commitment to playgroups.

As well as general Board members, we are seeking a suitably experienced and values-aligned individual to join our Board as Treasurer. As a key member of the Board, the Treasurer provides financial oversight and supports sound governance, ensuring the organisation’s financial health, sustainability, and accountability.

In this role of Treasurer, we are looking for someone who:

  • Has strong financial acumen, with qualifications or experience in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Brings governance experience or a strong understanding of fiduciary responsibilities (Board experience desirable but not essential)
  • Can interpret and communicate financial information in a clear and practical way

Previous Board or Management Committee experience is not essential, but will be viewed favourably.

These roles present opportunity to contribute your expertise, support strong governance, and help shape the future of the organisation.

 About Playgroup WA

Playgroup WA is the not-for-profit peak body for approximately 1000 community, parent-led playgroup sessions, as well as the growing professional playgroup sector.  Its role is to build community capacity to support families and children to thrive through connections in their local community.

Research shows children who attend playgroups during early childhood have significantly better child development when they start school. Playgroup WA’s work in supporting children, families and communities throughout Western Australia remains as important today as when it started.
