National Volunteer Week is a time to celebrate the people who help playgroups thrive across Western Australia.
These volunteers have been nominated as Star Volunteers by members of their own playgroup communities in recognition of the care, energy and support they bring to families each week.
From creating welcoming spaces to building strong community connections, their contributions make a lasting difference for children, parents and carers.
We are proud to recognise and thank these incredible volunteers for the impact they make through play, connection and community.
First Friends Playgroup Inc
โSince joining the committee in 2023, Alice has been a dedicated and valued volunteer who consistently goes above and beyond for the playgroup. She has worked tirelessly on initiatives including advocating with the local government for improved leasing conditions, coordinating community events, applying for grants, and raising the playgroupโs profile locally. Alice has also helped build the long-term sustainability of the playgroup through partnerships, funding opportunities, and practical support. Always willing to help wherever needed, she brings passion, enthusiasm and consideration to everything she does. Her wider volunteer work across other local organisations makes her an inspiring and deserving nominee.โ
Bakers Hill Clackline Playgroup
โAmy has shown outstanding dedication in supporting the Bakers Hill Clackline Playgroup during a particularly challenging period. Taking on the playgroup while it faced venue uncertainty and relocation, she has worked hard to secure sustainable venue options and negotiate positive arrangements with local community groups to help ensure the playgroup can continue serving local families for years to come. She is passionate about strengthening community connections, growing playgroup participation, and creating a welcoming space for families. Through her commitment, she has also helped connect families with local services and supports, making a lasting impact on the community.โ
Nyabing Playgroup
โNot only does Angela put all the time, energy and effort into planning, organising, and co-ordinating with members and other groups, she is always super welcoming to everyone, thoughtful and kind. Both Angela, her partner, and her kids are always a joy to interact with. Without Angela's continuous efforts, our group probably wouldn't be able to function as it does. Everyone appreciates all the effort she puts into the community.โ
Marmion Warwick Playgroup
"Britt has gone above and beyond in her time on the committee:
You only have to mention something in passing to find that Britt has completed the job 5 minutes later!! She has been a huge asset to our committee and the playgroup."
Yanchep Beach Playgroup
"Candice is a project manager by profession, and currently volunteers as our Playgroups Administrative Officer. Candice goes above and beyond for our playgroup, we are so lucky to have her. We had a brainstorming meeting about our year, what themes and activities we would like to do, and Candice brings it all to life!
Incredible illustrated term calendars for us, all resource research done and listed, assigns responsibilities to our committee, and is also our point of contact for all members. Candice has even applied for and been successful in securing a local government grant for our playgroup to purchase much-needed resources to ensure we run smoothly.
Thank you, Candice. From the YBPG Committee."
Wagin Playgroup
โKellie has stepped up into our social media role and Treasurer position this year and has been so helpful to me as President.
Kellie is so creative with Canva revitalising our social media presence ensuring our members have beautiful notifications of our sessions each week, reminder posts and lovely reels. If I need a thankyou letter or anything done up Kellie volunteers and does it beautifully.
Kellie has run a few craft sessions, picking craft supplies up from the metro area and running really successful sessions with great feedback. She offers her time outside of Playgroup hours for set up of those sessions to make them a success.
Thanks Kellie for being so passionate and always doing everything with a "no problem at all" attitude.โ
Bunbury Playgroup
Over the past two years Kodie worked so hard in the role of president - wrangling the committee, organising Busy Bees, collaborating with other local service providers, and making sure that Bunbury Playgroup continues to be a fun, safe, and creative place to be!
She is a friendly presence who always makes member families feel welcome.
While she's now stepped down from the president role, we are so thankful that she's staying on as our session leader for Thursdays!
Chidlow Playgroup
โFrom the beginning, Kylie has always stepped up for the playgroup. She is now the president of the Chidlow playgroup and we have grown so much since. She started organising morning tea for the kids and every week she cuts up the fruits for all the little ones. Kylie loves to tidy up and it's so nice to come into playgroup with everything organised, I definitely really appreciate it.โ
โSince beginning her playgroup journey through the First Thousand Days program, Kylie has shown exceptional passion and commitment to supporting local families and strengthening community connections. She has reinvigorated the Chidlow Family Playgroup, helping grow it into a thriving and welcoming hub for families. Kylie is always thinking of new ideas to increase participation, build long-term sustainability, and create meaningful opportunities for families to connect. Her energy, creativity and dedication make her exciting and inspiring to work alongside, and a highly deserving nominee.โ

โIn the face of adversity for most of 2025, Kym guided the playgroup through challenges with determination, passion and a love for her community. She brings together parents on the playgroup committee to work effectively for their group, recognising their own strengths and limitations. Together, they have ensured the sustainability of the group and kept it a welcoming, safe and nurturing space for everyone.โ

Yanchep Rise Primary school Playgroup
โStephanie has coordinated the Yanchep Rise PS Playgroup since it started last year. She is a really enthusiastic leader who communicates well with the host school and the other playgroup leaders. She put in for a PGWA Marketing Grant for the playgroup when it had only been operating for a few terms. She has built links with the school such as organising for the playgroup to lay a wreath at the School Anzac Service. She effectively liaised with the school when the playgroup needed to move rooms this year. She's been an absolute champion for the Yanchep Community and instrumental in the successful start of the new school based playgroup.โ
East Freo Playgroup
"Tessa has made a large contribution to East Freo Playgroup over the last 3 years. From securing various grants including a grant from Bunnings whereby they provided assistance with painting our playroom, to organising and assisting with installation of new shelving in our storeroom.
She has also brought her marketing expertise to the committee when we required new signage after the development of East Fremantle Community Park.
She has shared her amazing tech knowledge and has been a huge help in managing enrolments, check in forms and getting the new PGWA enrolment process up and running for our playgroup.
There are many other ways she has contributed to our community and playgroup but overall she is just a fantastic support to all committee and community members, always offering support and assistance."
