Balloon Animals
You don’t have to be a balloon artist to make balloon animals, in fact you don’t even need to twist any together! You can make these cute animals with standard balloons, coloured paper and a little imagination.
What you need:
- Standard balloons
- Coloured paper
- Crepe paper
- Glue stick
- Feathers
- Black permanent marker
- Straws or string to attach to the balloons
Before you sit the kids down to make their animals you will need to pre-cut the paper/crepe paper into shapes. Rounded rectangles make great ears and noses, strips of crepe paper are good as spots or crests for chickens, anything goes just use your imagination.
When you blow up the balloons make sure to keep them nice and small, if you inflate them too much they will pop easily.
Put the shapes in a few containers around the table and help the children glue them onto the balloons. Permanent markers can be used to draw eyes and other details. Don’t worry if the animals end up with five ears and no eyes, as with all activities at playgroup it’s the process that counts not the outcome – have fun!
Extension Idea: You can incorporate songtime with this activity and sing “Old McDonald had a Farm” when the children have finished making their balloon animals.
